The Chums are In!

Lane Hoffman is down at the coast today doing a little “pre-fishing” for our annual Chum Salmon Fish-A-Long tomorrow.

He reports the rivers are in good shape with lots of fish. Some rain is expected but it will take a lot to put the river out of shape. Fishing should be good tomorrow!

November 15 Speaker Nate Brumley

Nate Brumley is the owner dryflyinnovations.com, an online fishing company out of Meridian, Idaho. The only bugs sold at his company are dry flies, and he has mastered the use of them in every season of the year. Nate’s tying sessions and presentations are some of the most sought after events in the industry at present, and his knowledge of dry fly fishing is truly phenomenal. It has been said that one hour with Nate is like gaining 10 years experience on how to fish a dry fly. He is the the author of Addicted to the Rise.

Nate’s presentation is Winter on a Dry Fly, which will explore the world of tiny bugs and big fish as they rendezvous at the surface in winter. You’ll learn critical insight about a fish’s feeding habits in winter and we’ll show you how to utilize that information to set up and deliver in the hatch. Nate divulges all the secrets, all the strategies, and all the insight you’ll need to open up a whole new fly fishing season.

Some of the most exciting dry fly fishing of the year happens after the first hard frost and this presentation will prepare you for that experience with the right gear, knowledge of the hatches, and the perfect selection of winter dry flies. It’s a presentation you won’t want to miss!

President’s Message November 2016

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We have an early fish-a-long this month as we will be going to the Kilchis River, if weather permits, after Chum Salmon. The date is Saturday 11/12/16 and we usually meet about 8:30 AM. More details to follow.

Last months’ speaker was Josh Linn from the Royal Treatment Fly Shop and he shared more information about catching Steelhead. Our next speaker is Nate Brumley who hails from Idaho and will be speaking to a few clubs in our area. Nate is founder of Dry Fly Innovations and has penned a host of fly patterns.  This should be a very informative meeting.

A heads up for our December meeting as Santa will again be giving a gift to every member in attendance. We will also be giving away a few of our sponsors gift certificates to some lucky attendees.

We will not be having a fly tying night in November or December  because of conflicts with Thanksgiving and Christmas.   We will pick things up in January 2017.

Remember our sponsors by visiting their shops when you are in their area. Stop in and purchase something, book a trip, or just say hello and thank them for their support.

And, this rod comes bundled with a Lamson Remix HD 3.5 reel ($190) strung with a
Rio Switch Chucker#6 line ($90)
As you can see the complete package would retail for over $1000. Please note this is a switch rod NOT a full blown spey rod. Also note that it is a 6 weight so it might be a little undergunned for big boy steelhead.
