October 2026 Fish A Long Report

One of the best things you can have on a fishing trip is GOOD LUCK and we had our fair share at this Fish A Long! When we had windy weather roll in, it was at night and gone by mid morning the next day. The road was in good shape and in parts freshly graded. The fishing was good too with everyone getting into fish.

Wednesday: Hit the Chef Store in Clackamas and picked up an 18lb chunk of Top Sirloin. We are going to eat well! Arrived at Beavertail around 1:30 and the Campground was totally empty so it was easy to get our favorite spot. It was a sunny & comfortable fall day, perfect for setting up camp & relaxing.

Thursday: Dawned cool & cloudy in the morning. There were only a few sheep on the canyon wall but enough to keep it interesting. People started rolling into camp in the afternoon. Everyone brought firewood so we had plenty for both morning and evening fires. Today was my lucky day! Fished from 2:30 to 4:30 and did really well on trout plus a few whitefish; landed close to 40 fish with 4 doubles!

After dinner it got super windy but calmed down the next morning.

Friday started out breezy & clear. Luck was with us and the wind layed down around 9. We had some good sheep viewing while drinking coffee around the fire. Once it warmed up it was a spectacular day; clear skies, no wind and shirt sleeve weather. The bite wasn’t as hot today but everyone got fish. Darryl landed the big fish of the day, a big thick redside that took a bead under an indicator. In the evening Lane made us a great Dutch oven dinner of Chicken & Dumplings.

Saturday was pretty much a repeat of Friday with nice fall weather, plenty of campfires & our steak dinner. Days of hammering “the spot” along with a full moon at night slowed down the bite but fishing held up and was “steady.” We had a couple other fly fishing groups in camp with us; the Clark-Skamania Fly Fishers along with some folks from the old Westfly gang. We all shared the water plus enjoyed “just a few” beverages around the campfire. Good times!

Sunday was a good day to wet a line in the morning then head home. Thanks to everyone that came and made this another memorable Fish A Long!
